When copy and pasting the block to new pages it breaks the page

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi i have had 2 sites with pages breaking because the sortable gal has been copied from one page to another.

My set up:

i always set a page type up with the gal in the page defaults then create pages from the page type.

Some times the clients will delete the gal form a page and ask me to re-add it.
so i will try to fix it by copying a gal from another page into the page where it was deleted.

this will break the page and any other pages will break that get created from the page type. so i have to recreate the page type with a new handle for the gal block area to fix it.

just though i would give you a heads up. :) thanks for a great free addon

Ok After looking at this for a few hours and tested everything that i could think of (new page types, changing block handle) i have come to the conclusion that its because I have allowed my client to upload very large images and the gallery does not like them.

I had to run a batch resize on the images then re-upload them.
All problems now fixed.

Does the sortable gallery not resize images automatically?
or is there a max file size it can not handle?

Weird. I have definitely gotten reports from people who had hundreds of images on one page that the page would not be displayed. This wound up being because their server was timing out due to having to create thumbnail images for so many images at once.

But it's weird that this would happen for a copy of the block, because once the system generates a thumbnail for an image at a particular size, it doesn't re-generate it (so if you copied the block from elsewhere, presumably all the thumbnails have already been created for that original block you copied from).

Unfortunately there's nothing I can do (that wouldn't require an inordinate amount of time) to work around this issue. Sorry, wish I had a better answer for you (but I'm glad you got is solved eventually).

Thanks for the reply.

Yes dont think it was the copy and past bit any more. As when testing it would show a set with 3 images but then if i asked it to use my set with large images it would break on publish.

Do you know if there is a php setting i can tweek to increase the memory for creating the thumbnails?

I currently use the .htaccess to set:

php_value upload_max_filesize 60M
php_value post_max_size 90M
php_value memory_limit 92M

As far as I know, there is only the one memory setting ("memory_limit") -- maybe try increasing that.
