Wow! I'm a total newbie and got this up and running in a couple hrs

datacraftsteve
Hate to admit it but I'm totally ignorant about web site building and blogging in general. I struggled trying to make a WordPress site and gave up and went to Concrete5 and love it. Even someone like me can build a really good site with C5. But, I wanted a blogger even though I know nothing about how to run a blog so I was sad to leave WordPress.

Then I found Elyon's WP plugin for C5. I read the documentation but was lost when it said to modify the config file.

Elyon replied within minutes to my questions and suggested I use my host's "One-click-installs" to install WP and then, no need fuss with the config.

Worked like a charm and I could do the rest. I'm so ignorant :-( but I'm up and running :-), yehaa!

Thanks Elyon for awesomely fast and accurate support and one of the best add on I've come across yet.

Innovative Product, good support

I have used this product to great effect on a recent development and although some of the setup requires some "backend" expertise the support I received has been excellent. It is a great way of deriving/retaining the SEO benefits of a Wordpress blog and also to integrate an existing Wordpress blog without having to manually import data (or copy and paste)

buggy with non existent support

Have regrettable bought two licenses of this. Plugin is very buggy and sensitive. Submit a support request and you'll be lucky to get an answer back in a week, if at all. Now ditching both licenses to replace with an RSS feed addon. Much simpler.

I've been running a blog for a few years. This add-on gave me a great way to pull the blog into my new site. Easy to install and the best way to manage a blog through Concrete 5.

Very happy with this add-on

Juerg
First I set up Wordpress - which was really easy - and imported a big wordpress-blog from an old wordpress-installation - again without a problem.
I followed the instructions in the documentation for setting up the blocks "wordpress content", "wordpress categories" and "wordpress archive" and in no time at all the blog showed up in my site already styled according to my theme.
Now I will just have to do some css-tweaking or maybe create a custom-template to fine-tune the appearance.
Great to be able to use the power of Wordpress-Blogging in Concrete5!

Installed without a hitch

This was the first add-on I've bought from the Concrete Market Place and very happy with the product. Being primarily a designer, not a programmer, I'm always looking for things that will make life easier and more intuitive to use.

It was installed on Concrete 5.5 without a hitch and once our default workdpress blog was set up (you will need some experience in doing this, although it is very easy), it was fairly easy to get the blog summaries loading into our homepagehttp://www.netsite.co.uk working seamlessly with the blog pagewww.www.netsite.co.uk/netsite-blog/.... I also managed to install the Facebook and Twitter WordPress plugins that were suggested, to automatically post to these accounts from the blog.

This seemed a much easier process than using the built in Concrete Blog functionality. I had previously tried this and run into problems trying to integrate the blog template with my design. With this plugin, it seamlessly used my existing Concrete theme without a problem. Proabably saved me hours of time which would have been spent trying to recreate a WordPress theme to look the same as the Concrete theme.

I would recommend this add-on if you want the sophisticated blogging functionality of WordPress combined with the easy-to-use CMS features of Concrete.

Required developer help to install on older C5, partially works, with significant limitations

brotherhutch
As a very bare-bones method of integrating WP and C5, this does the job. Be prepared for a challenge if you are installing this on an older version of C5 -- the dev had to modify code for my install, and the back-end panel still does not work at all.

One major limitation is that any header content you want from a typical WP installation does not replicate to the C5 version. Forget about adding to your posts social buttons such as Facebook 'like' and other share buttons that require header information (Open Graph). And social plugins for WP do not work at all. Also, since scrapers generally do not run JS, they won't have access to any of your blog content (neither will anyone with JS turned off). I suspect this is terrible for SEO.

Even something as simple as RSS, has significant issues. There appears to be no way to easily find the RSS url. Activating RSS in the entries block has no result.

Support for the plugin has been hit-and-miss. The dev helped with the install but then seemed to disappear afterwards. Further inquiries were ignored.

While it's nice to have the integration, you're making a lot of compromises for it.

Hi,

I am very sorry I was unable to response to your later request for help.

At a glance, since the add-on does use AJAX by default, it may appear that it would not work for search engines. In fact, the add-on will automatically detect a search engine and provide identical content using cURL, so engines receive all of your content, while users benefit from the faster performance of a client-side request.

The add-on exposes RSS, which highlights in icon in many browsers. It does not create an image for RSS on the page, but if you want to add an image, the URL is "/feed" after the blog address. If you modify the page for the blog, your block will appear on all blog pages.

There are three different types of plugins in WordPress. Some only affect the backend of your site, like cross-posting to Twitter or WordPress. These should work, since your backend is still WordPress. Others affect the content of your blog posts, like an add-on for embedding Flash content or a video. These work most of the time without modification, since they modify the content of your blog post, but the third type -- and sometimes there is some overlap -- modifies the frontend of your page. The point of this add-on is to use Concrete for the presentation, not WordPress, so these plugins (which are generally few) do not carry over. Occasionally a plugin that modifies post content will use a header script, in which case you can copy the script from WordPress and put it in your site theme or a block on the blog page in Concrete.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you have good experiences in the future!

The add-on uses the full "pretty" permalink style you'll find in WordPress, to improve SEO, and

Easy to install and use

Wordpress for Concrete5 was easy to install and use. The author was very prompt in replying to support emails and helping out where they could. If you're familiar with Wordpress, then it's the way to go!

Only gripe I have is that meta tags don't carry over (if you have them from a theme or plugin on the Wordpress end). If that feature is added, I'd give it 5 stars!

Other than that, great addon!

Thanks!

Not so good

I don't know why there are so many rave reviews. I have had nothing but problems so far. First time round, blank block, then after changing some advanced settings (which were supposed to be optional), I saw my Wordpress entries. Next I set the option to view excerpts instead of full posts. OK but when I click on the heading or "continue reading" I still only get the heading or excerpt. After changing some more advanced options in an effort to put things right, the entries disappeared altogether and, just to make matters worse, I lost the Concrete5 "edit" bar, so couldn't edit the page. Ended up having to delete the page altogether.

Hi!

I'm sorry that you've had trouble.

I am not really sure why you had a blank block the first time through, or what settings you had to change in order for it to start working.

There was an update today to fix a small regression that had happened with the "Excerpts Only" mode, where clicking titles would not show the full post. I apologize for that problem, but if you update your add-on to 1.5.4 that was uploaded earlier today, it should be fixed.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you!

Great Add-on and So Easy

ProjbyP
I have used a lot of add-ons and this one is one of the best I've experienced. I appreciated the step by step instructions, which made it easy to get it set up and working. I installed it on my own Concrete website -http://www.projectsbypeggy.com - as a test.

In less than 15 minutes, WP was installed and working with my Concrete site. Great Job on a very useful add-on that I see will be useful for many of my customers.

Thank you!

CAUTION: After a few days, I found a potential concern with this app. My review hasn't changed, but there are some possible shortcomings that may affect users. Let me explain.

I was going to allow users to sign up to receive an email when I posted to the blog (using feedburner subscription service), but the email links point to the actual WordPress install, rather than the concrete site.

I did not ask for a fix for this nor is this a complaint. It's just a warning for those who have clients who might like to include the option to have customers sign up to receive the news via email.

I never use WP anymore. It does seem easier though now that I've been playing with C5 for 2 years. Anyway, I was able to get this working in an afternoon. The only trouble I had at first was that I didn't know enough to choose the cURL instead of AJAX option. Once I did that, it started importing my WP Entries no problem.

One other tip: the URLs in the Entries, Archives and Tags blocks should match exactly—don't take it for granted that they do; scroll all the way to the left and right and make sure you didn't make any little copy + paste errors. If they all match, they will all import the data perfectly.

It's surprisingly simple to set up and works without a hitch. I'm truly amazed it works this well. I'm using 5.4.2, so it probably works even better with C5 v5.5.2 or whatever they're up to now.

I am a newbie also, at C5, and the developer answered my questions within hours. Not only that, but he logged into my site and fixed the problem I had going on. This included adding a page to my site, installing the WP plugin and several emails. I highly suggest this Add-On and developer.

Great Time Saver

TheRealSean
So The amount of time I would have spent skinning up a theme to match my current site would be 4-5 hours+ This allows you to use a wordpress blog and have the articles be displayed automatically. But yet still use the Wordpress admin.

I do not mind the c5 basic blog but wordpress is a better blogging platform and this makes it that much easier to import those posts.

It took me longer to install wordpress then it did to get this working.

Also as a note set your wordpress Site address (URL) to be your c5 blog and it will load that up when viewing posts from wordpress admin area.

--Just do not change the WordPress address (URL) - I speak from experience.

Thanks to the Author you have saved me a vast amount of time here.

Only bit I would like to see is some sort of Dashboard setting to set the Wordpress URL(s). Then the use of a Select Box in the Block. Just so I don't need to add the url in every time I add a block to the page.

I just got WP/Concrete5 today, talk about having the best of both worlds! Elyon was extremely helpful ... responding to my message w/questions almost immediately! The directions he provides on the add-on page (in Marketplace) are easy to understand; ditto with the directions and info he provided me via message reply. This add-on is WELL worth it!! :-)

I generally try to get things to work myself, then read the instructions when things don't work. Do yourself a favor and read the instructions for this add-on first. You need to install regular WordPress, and then to install a free WordPress plug-in to make the magic happen.

So what does this add-on do if it's not full-blown WordPress? It allows you to drop your WordPress posts, categories, search bar, archives, etc. into any block on your site, styled according to your theme. If you've created WordPress theme you know that they can be time consuming to create. As a Web developer the savings in time over creating a WordPress theme is well worth the cost of this add-on.

To echo randyking's post: don't base a site on WordPress simply to get a quick and free "CMS". Concrete5 is a far better solution, especially for non-technical site owners, and this add-on makes including your WordPress blog simple.

I deducted one star for not having any error messages to tell me why things weren't working initially.

This thing works as advertised and is worth the cost of admission. I was actually considering putting my entire site in WordPress until tallacman told me about this add-on (thanks, Steve). The add-on support and up-dates have been timely and excellent; and thankfully so, because I am not tech savvy! Great job, Joshua!

So you’ve got a wordpress blog and you want to use it and you’ve got thousands of posts and moving it all over to concrete5 is such a choir and, maybe I'll just stick to wordpress but wait! Enter the solution: "Wordpress for concrete5".

This beautiful, easy to use addon will whip your ice-age mastodon wordpress site into shape and pull all your content into your concrete5 page and use your styles and look beautiful! Even if you're not using one of my themes (shameless plug).

Ok, the bad news: It's $32.50.
Now the good news: It's only $32.50! Come on! Live a little. This thing is worth twice that. The power of wordpress and the beauty of concrete5.

A marriage made in heaven; or paypal, depending on your payment preferences.
