Stellar Parallax install errror

Permalink Browser Info Environment
So when I tried to install this theme, it asked at first if I wanted to do the clear site completely option. I chose to not do a clear site install, and it appeared to install correctly. But on the Pages and Themes page, it didn't appear as an option for me to activate the theme. So I tried to uninstall and re-install and this time I chose Yes to the clear site. But during the middle of install, I got an error that said:
An unexpected error occured.
Call to a member function applyToSite() on a non-object.

Then there is a button to go Back to Home and it removed all contect/pages from my site and still won't let me install Stellar Parallax theme.

Need help...

Hi,

What version of concrete5 and what version of the theme are you using?

Sounds like a concrete5 error if the theme didn't show up in the Pages & Themes section. Are you working on a hosting server or locally on your own machine using MAMP or WinAMP?

Can you answer these questions for me please? You might need to do a fresh install of concrete5 and try again.

Concrete version is the latest I believe:
# concrete5 Version
Core Version - 5.7.5.6
Version Installed - 5.7.5.6

Stellar Parallax version:
0.9.6

We are working on a hosted solution (not local).

Before the error upon clear site install and our web page was still working normally with the Elemental theme, I downloaded and installed a couple of the free themes (Fruitful, stucco, etc) and they both installed fine and showed up in the Pages and Themes page.

So I just seem to be having issues with the Stellar Parallax theme...?? Also...not sure how to get my site back up and running. Elemental doesn't even show as an option to activate anymore and all my pages were wiped out. When I goto my main site now, it directs me immediately to the login page?

OK, most recent versions of everything is good.

It might have been a server timeout when concrete5 was trying to execute the install. I've had it happen myself on shared hosting plans. The site install from sample content can be quite memory intensive and sometimes a server can timeout before concrete5 finishes.

This would explain why you're not seeing any content or can't activate anything. The site was midway through wiping and hadn't gotten to the install part of the process yet.

To get your demo install up & running, you'll need to wipe the database and delete the files within the Application > Config folder.

Then run through the installation process for a new concrete5 site again. When it asks if you want to install Sample Content select Empty site. This will be lighter on the server to wipe than removing the sample content in the demo install.

See if this works for you.

I did as you suggested:
1. Deleted all files from the application->config folder
2. Went to my main site domain and it started the install process
3. I had to create a new database/user, but did so
4. Chose the empty site option and it installed fine
5. Went to do the Stellar Parallax clear site install, and it started to install and about 3-5 seconds into the install, it errors out with the exact same error message.

What to try next??

OK it's definitely something crapping out on the server as I can't replicate the error on my end with a hosted attempt or a local attempt.

What hosting company are you using?

Would you be OK if I was to send you an export of a database from a clean install of this theme on my local machine?

You could just upload the files for concrete5 & put the theme into the packages folder then import the database I send you in place of the new one you created and it should work OK for you.

We are using Bluehost.

I'd be willing to give the manual file copy a try if you could just spell out pretty clear what files to copy where.

We are fairly new to concrete5.

Thanks

I'd also be willing to give you a temporary login to our site if you wanted to see for yourself what is happening...

Hi,

I set up a clean version of Concrete5 with no content then installed Stellar with the sample content.

I've exported the database just after doing this and attached it here.

On your end, make sure that Stellar is in the packages folder.

You'll need to go to php MyAdmin and drop all the tables in the database of the last installation of Concrete5 that you did. Don't delete the database or create a new one.

Import the attached file into this Database.

Because you didn't delete the database, your DB name, Username & Password are all the same so you don't need to change any files.

To log into the site after this import, username is support@c5themeteam.com & password is c5themeteam

Obviously change those out as soon as you get up & running.

Hope that helps
Steve

I will try this. Quick question...with redoing my concrete5 install a few times, my site is no longer connected to the c5 community. When connecting my site to the community, do I need to use the same username/password as used previously when we bought the theme?

I'm just wondering if the purchased theme is associated with the username/password or if its tied to our site somehow?

Once you get sorted just pop concrete5 support a quick e-mail. Connecting back to the marketplace is handled on their end.

You can have different accounts though.

OK, I got all of the above done. A little progress...but still not working for some reason.

So after all of the above, I'm seeing this:

1. My main page is just completely blank (blank white page).
2. When I login, a theme called 'Stellar Responsive' is showing on the Themes and Pages page. It's Activate button is grayed out as well as the Remove button. So it's like it's the chosen theme...but nothing is there. If I click on the 'Page Templates' button, then it just brings up a table that says "There are no templates in this file."
3. I then tried to activate the Elemental Theme and it activated OK. But when I loaded my main page it was a mostly white page with some text on it that reads:
"Mobile/Tablet Friendly
With Stellar Resoponsive there's no need for a separate mobiel version of your site..."

There must be some issue why this theme isn't showing up and working properly? Other themes seem to work just fine (I've just tried a couple free ones).

Can you send me a private message with a link to the site and a log in and I'll take a look later today. This is very strange.

Thanks

I've logged in and see the error you get when you try to do the sample content install.

Why does your url add in the second level?

I have my concrete5 installation in a subfolder of the host root. htaccess file directs the main domain to the sub folder. It adds on the extra folder in the url because I haven't done anything yet to hide the subfolder.

Could that be causing an issue? Like I mentioned, other themes seem to not be affected by it...

It's possible alright.

I tried to install the Stucco theme & got a very ugly error. Still just have a blank homepage too.

Could you disable the htaccess stuff for a while & lets see can we get the theme installed without an error that way?

I can, but the only thing the .htaccess file does right now is to redirect the main page to the subfolder. But as you can see...once you actually go anywhere or even start at an absolute url then it stays using those. So the .htaccess really only comes into play when you go to the main domain.

I just edited .htacccess file to remove the redirect. So now primary domain just goes to a simple index.html file located on root. So now to get to the website you have to use the subfolder as part of the path (you should know subfolder path from PM sent earlier).

And as for the stucco theme, once I try the stellar theme using the clear site option...it jacks up the site for all other themes. So in order to successfully apply any other themes...I need to reinstall the site. Then on a fresh install, I can switch between themes (minus Stellar).

I've never come across this error. I can't replicate it on my server or locally and without FTP and control panel access I can't reinstall C5 and upload the database to try debug it from there for you.

What I did notice was that the version of C5 that I'm running locally was not actually the most recent. Can download and install version 5.7.5.3 and then try install Stellar or import the database I uploaded.

I'm going to run a test locally now with the latest version & see if that might be causing anything to fall over.

Got it installed on the latest version of concrete5 with no issues. Sample content went in fine.

Was able to get Stucco to install over the top of this then. I'm at a loss as to where the incompatibility between server & theme is.

One more thought. Have you tried to download a fresh version of the theme from the Transactions > Licences section of the Concrete5 site?

I wonder is it as simple as a file was corrupted on download?

I did try a fresh download with the same results.

Is there another theme that is similar that we should try instead?

I guess if we can't get it working, maybe we'll just have to get a refund and try a different theme?? :(

Hi,
I have just downloaded the theme and am having the exact same issue.
Install theme without resetting content and it is not available to select from themes.
Install theme with reset content and it has error as already noted.
Clean install with c5.7.5.6
Hosted site on dev server.
This is the first theme I have had any issues with on this server.

New version of the theme with no sample content now uploaded. Try this one & see how you get on.

I'll send you both a PM with a link to download a copy of Peak which is a them built off the same code base but is white rather than dark blue. See if you are having the same issues with this too.

Thanks for your patience,
Steve

New version with new Sample Content code uploaded. You should be prompted for an upgrade on the version you have purchased.

Hi Steve,

This version installed OK with sample content.

Thanks for your prompt attention to this.
