good catch. this fix shouldn't break anything so i'll add it to the core.

actually, you're right, you shouldn't really have to add padding to each area individually. the layouts add/edit screen just needs a "spacing" field. i'll try to add this before the final 5.4 release

a better way to add gaps between columns is to open the area design panel for each column's area, and add left/right margins. percentage readouts are coming later.
