database migration

I want to start fresh with my build and actually, I want to start with V8 instead of v5.7.9 but I have a lot of members already signup in my current site. Is there a way I can migrate just the members db into a new build to where they would not have to register again?

Cheers

Has no one encounter a similar situation?

Yes, I had the same problem and in the end I had to manually register each user in the new site.
The migration tool that the core team developed only handles content.
So at this moment in time, as far as I am aware, migrating users is not possible.

Hi jmnino,

A community member has been working on an add-on for 5.7 and v8 that imports/exports users, user attributes, and user groups.

I forwarded the developer this discussion and they said they are still working on it, but it has not been a priority.

If you have a pressing need for this, I imagine development could be made a priority if you hired the developer to finish it for you.

An alternative is to use an existing add-on that exports users and user attributes. This would still require writing the import code.

Thanks weyboat and MrKDilkington for the reply's. Its not a pressing matter as of right now but I may reach out to the community member. I'm sure hiring the developers time to finish the addon would be a plus for them but also the community since its a key piece for some of us that need to move a lot of members.

Cheers,
