Moving Blocks around Page is difficult

I love the drag and drop feature for blocks but if a block is large this does not work very well. I have had some success copying to clipboard then pasting to new location.

I really liked how 5.6 made all of the blocks smaller when you wanted to move a block, making it easy to navigate the page and drop it where you want. I can also not find a way to scroll the page to get to an area to drop the block.

I know this is an old thread, and forgive me for possibly mentioning something that has already been addressed.

I have been using C5 since about 2009 and have been there through all the progress and changes, but one thing bugs the hell out of me. Dragging blocks. I am with this person.

Now, don't pile on too hard, but I do a lot of work in Wordpress, and the basic functionality of the page scrolling when dragging menu items, Visual Composer blocks, etc. is built-in and brainless. That isn't the case with C5 in the 5.7 or 5.8b version. I can't believe no one has seriously addressed this. With all due respect, from a UX perspective, it is terrible.

I have trained people on C5 and when I get to the part about moving blocks around the page, their eyes glaze over.

Here is the conversation:

ME: You just grab the corner of the block you want to move and begin dragging, then find a highlighted area on the page to drop it into another location.

THEM: OK- can you put that block at the bottom of the page all the way at the top?

ME: Uh, well, not easily. You have to either painstakingly methodically move it up bit by bit, because the page doesn't scroll when dragging, or copy it to the clipboard and paste it where you want it.

THEM: But what if I have to reorder something? That could take forever.

ME: Yep.

When I saw the 5.8 beta up, I thought "I really hope they address the scrolling issue", but alas, no. Is it just me? Hello? Anyone out there?

Then, in a moment of caffeine induced brilliance, I thought "What if I begin dragging a block, then use the up and down arrows on the ol' keyboard to scroll the page?" Well, what do you know, it works! It's not a bug it's a feature!, Undocumented of course but a feature nonetheless.

In all seriousness, it would be great to see this addressed and it would make my life (and all my client's lives that want to be able to manage their own websites) a whole lot easier.

Thanks for all the hard work.

I'm currently writing a client some notes about how to move layouts around. It's a bit embarrassing because, as far as I know, you can only add them to the bottom of the area and you can't put them in the clipboard. Plus, since you can't change the number of columns in an extant layout, my client will need to be doing this more than would otherwise be necessary.
