Add-on(s) wishlist..

I'm finishing my first public C5 add-on (a mega menu) to release to the market soon, and looking for some ideas. I'd like to hear some add-ons you would like to see. Was there one you used in your former CMS and would like something similar, and so on.

Looking forward to your requests/ideas.

I am new to Concrete 5 and agonized about switching from Wordpress because of the long history and very active community. I nervously switched anyway because the ability to limit what my clients can edit on their own is very attractive to me. One of my main concerns about Concrete5, especially when compared to wordpress, is the lack of free add-ons available. So maybe in the interest of helping the concrete5 platform grow in popularity you could make some free versions of some of the existing pay-for add ons. In the age of open source CMS one really shouldn't have to pay $15 for a decent drop down menu or $105 for a document library. But then again, I'm a cheap bastard.

Tha' Wishlist:

Stout add ons:
-Concrete5 Multisite!! Would really help push C5 out towards Universities & Enterprise.

-Concrete5 Social Network/register for an account and do cool things. So we've got eCommerce, forums, ...seems like a logical next step (eg:http://buddypress.org ).

-Edit on your mobile device add on for Concrete5 (eg:http://ios.wordpress.org/ )

-Integration with systems like Banner (about Banner:http://www.iup.edu/banner/about/default.aspx... ), Datatel, & Other enterprise systems.

-Anything not already in the MP listed here:http://dotcms.com/solutions/education/features.dot...

Less stout (read: challenging) add ons:
-Theme editor from inside Concrete5 (much like the WP Plugins > Editor feature). This may already be in the works via the PRB, but I'm not sure).

-Gotta be more here, just not thinking of any at the moment.

Hope that helps.

The social media add-on such as WP's SocialBuddy has definitely been something I'm tinkering with. Since I'm basically adding such functionality to a project now. The core stuff is there, Friends, Groups and Activity feeds.. I guess I could polish those up and start there. No since in bloating it into a FB wannabe.

Well, I'm not very familiar with the current marketplace situation and all the existing addons but I'd like to spread in some thoughts:

I think it would be nice to have addons which are using a more complex data structure (like nested categories/folders, more attributes) but this of course means that the internal file system has got to be advanced, too. I.e. I don't believe in a good system progression featuring addons which are offering their own structures in order to replace the given system (that was my first idea -> just expand the addons; but that's not intelligent, I guess).

... to be continued when I'm home.
