Backup problem - can anyone help?

Hello we are having problems backing up our site - used to work fine until early May 2012 - this is the error we get - can anyone translate it into English and tell me what we need to do to fix it please?

Your database has grown sufficiently big that it it takes longer to backup than your host allows.
