Calling the registration page from a link

I've done it on one site so I know it's possible.

Tried to do t on another, but doesn't work.

I copied the register.php into single page directory etc. and made a link to call it.

I'm suspecting there's another file hidden away that I forgot about

Any help would be appreciated.
