Changing my default admin password

Permalink 2 users found helpful
I installed C5 through Hostmonster. I was assigned a password that I want to change to something else before I forget this password. How do I go about doing this?

If you already know the password you can change it by logging in and going to the dashboard, then going to "Search Users". From there you'll find the admin user which you can click on then click "Edit User". From here you can reset the password.

If you don't know the admin password and have access to MySQL (maybe through phpMyAdmin) you can see this article for resetting it:http://concrete5tricks.com/blog/reset-admin-password-via-mysql/...

No problem! If it solved your problem you should mark it as the best answer, that way we both get some karma and the thread is marked as answered. If it didn't solve your problem just let me know and hopefully we can get it figured out.

Thanks!

Any idea how we can change the superuser name as well? I have a site with a default of "admin" which is a magnet for hackers.

You can edit it in the "Search Users" area

you should be able to log in as admin and change the name from in the "search users" dialogue!

Thanks, Enlil, for some reason it never occurred to me to click on the name itself. I was checking the box and trying to select something from the dropdown. :)
