editing a webpage - the legibility of tiny gray text on black background

I request that the page editing options be restyled to make the text easier to read. Thankfully, I don't require glasses to read, but I still cannot read the gray-lettered edit options without drastically enlarging my screen.

The words are basic, content, html, image, file, horizontal, feature, navigation, auto-nav, page title, FAQ, page list, ....

I cannot see these words in a normal manner because the tiny gray text on the black background is unreadable.

I tend to agree that some texts are not easy to read. Hopefull this will change as soon as the new UX director gets up to speed (https://www.concrete5.org/about/blog/community-blog/new-director-ux-... ).

Style it to suit yourself..
copy concrete/css/app.css to applications/css/app.css (create the css folder)
and edit this file to change the colors as you desire..
NOTE.. Clear the cache to see the results.

This addon used to be part of my essential kit on fresh installs

The v8 interface has improved a bit, so I haven't used it for a while.

This addon won't change the style of the elements that the OP was talking about.
I believe it only styles the pages editable areas and defines the boundaries of the page.
It won't change the style of the font color elements within the 'Add Content' sidebar sliders.

I can remember playing with some vivid contrasts for the add content sidebar and others early in 5.7. I must have seen that somewhere else and maybe whatever I played with didn't go as far into the system as is required here.
