Inserting links to other pages

I notice that when you insert a link to an existing page it uses the format index.php?cID=46 in the url when referring to the page. Thus pages accessed in this way are not displayed in a pretty format url, even though the page (in this case named news) might be reached by a path such as
main/test/news
Is it possible to alter the selection of the url to use a nice format like this? You can of course paste in the nice path manually (using the html function to edit), but it rather defeats the purpose of having it selected automatically from the site list for you.
I guess one reason may be that the link would still work if you moved the page using the index.php?cID=46 format whereas it would not if you hard coded in the pretty path.
