Pretty URL's causing edit more to drop

Guys,
Just moved all my sites to a new server and having an ineresting problem. When logging into edit I am going to a new page and are then dropped out of edit mode and have to log back in.
Interestingly if you click the 'Keep me logged in' check box when logging in this goes away.
If you then remove Pretty URL's the problem also goes away.
My programmer and I cannot get to the bottom of this!
Anybody any ideas please?

Does your new server use varnish for caching? That can cause this issue.

Thank you Sir. The issue is sorted and I can now rescue the other 100 sites with the same issue. You have saved my ass!
