Why does "Remove block" make it "Awaiting Installation" ?

I want to delete an unused block forever. So...

1. log in as superuser

2. go to Dashboard —> Block Types

3. choose block to be Removed. confirm it is not being used on any page. say Yes at "are you sure?"

4. block moves to the top and becomes a block Awaiting Installation.

But I wanted to delete it. All suggestions appreciated!

Many thanks,
Charlie

You might need to uninstall the associated package. If it's a block that was placed in the root overrides directory, you'll need to delete those files.

Thanks. Uninstalling can be dangerous — I once took an entire site down by deleting a block via cPanel! If there's a documented procedure somewhere, I might tackle it. Otherwise I think I'll wait for my senior dev colleague to look at this... ;-)

Ah yes, this is true. By uninstalling, I would mean going to the "add functionality" page, inspecting the package, and clicking the uninstall button there. Deleting a package without uninstalling it through the dashboard would definitely cause some big problems for a site, as c5 would be looking for files that no longer exist, which tends to throw a wrench in things. :)

Thanks Evan - I'll check it out. Glad to learn one more thing about C5.
