Automatic removal of files in file set after X amount of time

Would/could there be a way to have files in particular file sets automatically deleted after a period of time? If we were talking about files in a particular directory you could write a script/schedule a cron job that would clean up files that are older than X, but would there be a way to accomplish this through the File Manager?
