Coming back after a lengthy break from C5, got a few questions to build a React webapp

So I spent more than a year on a JS project and I'm making a bit of a comeback and wow, C5 has sure changed a lot. I love it.
I'm way more comfortable with JS now though so I'd like to use C5 as a backend to serve page content and user data.
Any general tips for serving C5 data as JSON?
I'm mostly interested in getting the navigation tree and collection content. Did C5 get a RESTful API by any chance?
