Conversations Block & Updating

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this, if not please move it.

I am running version 8.1.0.
Yes, I know there is a newer version and I will get to that.

I cannot get the conversations block to work at all. I am currently focusing on the conversations block that came installed on the blog page template.
Nothing has ever loaded. It has said "Loading Conversation" with a spinning wheel. I looked at the conversation settings but I see nothing that would stop it from working. I have also tried removing the block from one of the blog post pages and replacing the original one with a new one and it does the same thing.

I am a newbie to php but do have self taught html understanding with a html website under my belt but I am in no way a web designer, obviously!

Other things I have tried:
1. Updating C5 to 8.2.1. I have tried to update in the back office of c5 and get an error message. It is attached. I was hoping the update would fix the conversations block.
2. Tried to update through GoDaddy. C5 was installed through GoDaddy but they are not listing any new updates even though I have it set to backup and install to any new updates to C5.

So, trying to fix conversations I have also ran into an updating problem also.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

That error message looks like it might be caused by an add-on: 'automatic email obfuscator'. Try uninstalling that. There's a chance that doing so could even make the coversation block work.

Thank you for the response.

I removed all add-ons except Event Calender.

Then tried to update to 8.2.1 through C5 back office.
The first try was with the Auto Email Obfuscator only removed and got the screen shot attached below listed as "invalidToken". I did receive that message before just did not get it recorded and forgot to mention it in the original post.

Since that did not work I tried removing all add ons except Event Calender. I tried updating again through C5, this time I did not get invalid token message, it went straight to the other attached file labeled "newSS". This message is different than the first one from the OP.

Removing the add-ons also did not help with the conversations block, the "stillLoading" attached file is what shows on the website. 6 minutes had passed at the time of the screen shot.

If you have any more suggestion and/or ideas from the new error message, I again thank you in advance!

I think that newSS indicates a problem with your hosting. Only your hosting company could fix that (they need to restart the MySQL/MariaDB server).

Repeatedly trying to upgrade a site can actually damage it, so make sure you keep your last good backup (files and database) safe. It would be wise to take another backup (without overwriting the previous) now.

Thank you. Did not know that trying to update continually could damage the site.

I did do a backup right before I started trying to update.

It took me this long to reply to this because I got busy with other business and will be for some time BUT when I get a chance to sit back down to work on this and talk to them, I will post looking for more advice, what they said to do and/or if it worked.

Thank you again for the help.

Hi there
I have the same problem with the conversation block. Looked all through everything. I have 8.1 which it seems I'm now stuck with as every attempt to upgrade fails miserably.
Any ideas other than deleting add ons ( I've tried it on clean page ) would be greatly appreciated.

This is a MySQL hosting problem - anytime you see "server has gone away" or "packet size" error messages - there are not enough resources allocated for MySQL.

I've had many nightmare moments with clients on such shared hosts (especially GoDaddy).

Simple answer - get a better hosting setup and save yourself the stress. If you'd like some recommendations, shoot me a PM.

Hi
Sorry about delay.
I've managed to upgrade to 8.4 and everything is fine.
