Exclude page-type from AutoNav by default

I want to exclude all my news entries from the navigation. Currently I am using pagelist with subpages. The easiest way would be to set the attribute "exclude from nav" by default for a certain page type. Is this possible? What other ways are there?

You could create a new attribute "exclude from nav by default" and assign it to your "News" page type.
Then filter the menu items by the attribute value in your autonav template.
