Horizontal navbar in 5.7

I mam finally making headway with Concrete5. One thing I can't figure out is how to create a site wide horizontal navbar.. I dragged the auto-nav block into my work area and selected the Responsive Header Navigation template. I still see a vertical list instead of a horizontal navbar. Am I missing something? I published my site and still nothing happened.

The responsive template only works in <header>
Drag it to the navigation area in the top of your screen, and check the responsive template again if it's still not working

Thanks! I noticed something else. I think you have to use the Full page option when creating pages for this to work. I had created blank pages and it didn't work unless there is a way to add a header area.
