Permissions

Im tying to apply permissions to blocks on all Left Sidebar sub pages, using version 5.3.1.1

I've tried doing it through Pages and Themes - Page Types - Leftside Bar -Defaults - Edit Page. I adjust the permissions to each block on the template, but they dont seem make any difference to new or old pages.

Is there a permissions tutorial?

Any help gratefully recived!

Jon

Currently, the changes that you made in the page type won't affect the old pages IF you made some changes to those permissions.

(Yeah, I'm trying to explain it as simple as possible... but I know myself that it's difficult to understand)

And, the permission tutorial is coming. Franz is working hard.

But at the same time, we all have priority, so I would say to stay tuned.

concrete5 permission system is great and has so many flexibility.

But because of this flexibility, it's kinda hard to decide where to start the tutorial.

have you tried making the permission changes you want to the blocks/areas on those pages in defaults - and then using the set to child option from the popup you get when clicking a block?

Thanks for the replies.

I have done what you suggested Frz.

On some blocks permissions work others don't.

I have set up all the blocks with permissions to a group called "page editor" on Left Sidebar, generally allowing just content and zoom image.

After deleting all pages except the home/default page, I create a new page.

Some areas have the had blocks limited and others have not. Using both IE and Mozilla, logged in as admin on one and page editor on the other, I can see that on the defaults page I have the correct block permissions applied. Looking on the page editor login the blocks are not limited.

Any help gratefully received.

i think changing the permissions on a existing block in defaults may not trickle out with the block when you update to children..

try deleting it and recreating that block from scratch with the right permissions...

since you're getting inconsistencies there, i think it would have to be due to this.

Ive tried just about everything, followed all the instructions but I can't get it to work.

Basically I want to set up permissions in the page default to restrict the types of content available in a block for a group. Sounds easy, but I can't get it to work. Please watch this and tell me where I'm going wrong.

http://www.vimeo.com/4412763

It basically shows me setting up block permissions on the default page as admin, then signing out, then back in as a page editor group making a new page, and finding the block permissions haven't applied.

Ive been trying to solve this for two full days now and it driving me slightly mad!

Thanks for all the help and advise so far

First, thanks for taking the time to put this into a video - that's really helpful.

First question - if you clear your site's cache (from the the sitewide settings - debug screen in the dashboard) does this problem go away?

And secondly - the page that you're adding the sub-page beneath. If you login as an administrator, and edit that page's permissions, you should see a select menu that determines whether sub-pages added beneath that page inherit their permissions from that page, or from the master page. To do what you're trying to do, you want to make sure that it's set to master page.

Does any of this help? I think there may be caching issues here (which are their own problem) but I'm wondering if something else is happening too.

I believe that this is a result of the parent page not being setup to have the child page inherit permissions from the master template, instead of the parent page.
