Have a look at my 'Image Plus' add-onhttps://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/image-plus/...
It's an image block with a lot of effects. But you can also show the main area content of another page right after the image block, or in a special 'preview block' if you want more control. The 'preview block' is included in the package.

that's a cool website!
I have an add-on in the markeplace called "More Block Templates", that includes several custom templates for built-in blocks (such as the "Page List" block).
These days I'm working now on a new template for the Page List block with a pretty similar effect, here is a demo:

Hopefully in the next few days I'll be able to finish it and include it in my add-on (http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/more-block-templates... ).
If you're interested, I'll let you know when the new version is available.
