Private Log In Area - How To Create

Hi,

I am trying to have an area available on a clients website which has content viewable only when they log in. The home page of the website has a public description and nav to pages for anyone to view about the company.

But the client has Trade customers and they want a small log in block created and added to the site where any Trade customer can input a username and password and it will take them to a Trade area, possibly with a few different category pages in the nav (that is just an option, I don't want to get too tricky here). The main request is to allow users to log in, or click register and allow a password to be generated to their email address (username).

I have looked everywhere to do this, I have read a lot of threads about permissions and tried to add in the free log in block, but I cannot view this block on my page. Plus I don't want a permissions change which will allow all these Trade customers into the Dashboard?

Any clear help on this would be great, as it is doing my nut in!

Thanks

Nick

You should be able to do this by creating a user group (Trade customers) and then going to the sitemap and modifying the permissions on the top-most page of that section to only be viewable by the group 'Trade customers'.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. How do I create the log in block, because I have added the LogIn Block, but it is not selectable in Blocks?

Thanks

Nick

The login block should just be a block that you add once it is installed. Try un-installing it and re-installing it.

Thanks Wagdi,

I had already been through those Log In Add Ons. The Log In Block FREE add on is the one I already installed which I cannot see when I go to add block?

I had discounted the redirect log in as that was a lot of money for what it was in my opinion ;o)

Thanks

Nick

Try installing a different add-on that creates a block, then try to add it to a page. This will tell you if the problem is with the login package or if there is another problem.

I recommend this add-on:
