Removing page type icons - page type inheritance?

Hi,

like a lot of other people, I have to start with the comment: I am new to C5... ;)

I started installing C5 with the sample project and was able to get my own theme running by copying it to the "theme" folder of the C5 installation path and installing it using the dashboard.

However, in my project, I mainly only need two page types: a three-column design for the start page and a two-column design for the other pages. There might of course be some more customized pages in the future e.g. for displaying the news overview etc.
So I created a "default.php", a "view.php", a "left_sidebar.php" and a "three-columns.php" in my theme´s folder.

When I selected "Add Page Type", I previously got 6 icons and additional/former types like "Blog Entry" and "Right Sidebar" that I do not have in my own theme and that I don´t need (and don´t want to present to my customer). Especially the "Blog Entry" looked like is has been "inherited" from the sample project because I definitely do not have a "blog_entry.php" in my theme folder.

However, I seem to have got rid of of this problem when I uploaded the image for the page type "three-colums.php" creating the file set "Page Type Icons" - now I only get this one displayed as option.

Is this really the way to go when using a new theme: getting the page type selection filtered by uploading only the page type icons for the pages types that will be available?
If I would be starting building themes for the public, where would I put these page type images in the package so that they get automatically installed with the theme?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!
