Upload Error 500

Whenever I upload any file that is not tiny... specifically having problems with JPG's approx 1MB, I get an error. Single upload just never shows the upload finish. Multiple upload shows it finish with a 500 error code.
The image actually DOES upload. I can look at the details, get the URL and it will work. But there is no thumbnail and if I try to add the image to the page, it breaks the page! The page won't load afterward.
I am having this problem on all sites on my server though I was not previously. I have not updated or made any changes that I can find. My upload limits are set properly. I can do a regular upload to the sites that run my own CMS, just concrete 5 not working.
