Using the latest jquery version can break things, so I might suggest the following:

Disable any jquery plugins that you're using while signed in and / or in edit mode, for editing purposes.

You could load the latest version of jquery only when not signed it - although, this could still break things on the front-end.

I've just been focusing on using jquery plugins that are compatible with whatever version that C5 is using.
