During install Error "There are already 255 tables in the database"

This is a first time install. The database was empty on initiating install. There are in fact 255 tables created at the time of limiting out. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a local install (Mac) using MariaDB 10.1.14

Error: "There are already 255 tables in this database. concrete5 must be installed in an empty database.."

Same issue but on CentOS 7 server.
MySQL 5.5.60-MariaDB

tried few variants of utf8 collation as some posts suggested that might be issue, but no luck.

Concrete 8.5.1. version, pre-check shows all green checks, only warning that I might not be able to use emoticons ...

Any idea?

If an installation fails to complete (typically due to insufficient execution time), it will leave tables in the database. These have to be manually dropped (or the database deleted and recreated) before trying again.

Thank you Gondwana.

I raised PHP execution time and instalation went just fine.
