Host Site Unable to Help

I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall with my hosting provider, register.com. Apparently none of them have the technical knowledge, even in their technical support department, to assist me with finding the error logs I desperately need to solve this problem. I'm regretting signing up with them but for the time being we need to stay with them if only because we've already paid for a year of their services. It seems to me that they frankly don't have a clue as to what they're doing but so long as we can get something workable at the end of the day...

Here's the deal:

My hosting provider doesn't seem to have a cPanel interface for interacting with the backend of their services. They have a very limited and skimpy panel that they seem to have made on their own, though they do provide the information necessary to access the server files by FTP. Their "one click install" for concrete5 was for version 5.6.0, which for our purposes is far too outdated to be making a website with. I tested their one-click install for 5.6.0 and that did work, but of course that version isn't able to update through to 5.7 or higher from inside the CMS itself and requires a fresh, manual install.

Every time I try to install 8.0.3 manually it seems like it's working but appears to crash around the "Installing Block Types" section, and tells me to look at the error log for details. Which is a huge problem, considering my host doesn't provide any easy way to look at the error logs. In fact, after having called them and spoken with both their in-house technical team, AND their "my-time technical staff" which is supposedly a PAID solution to more difficult technical problems, NEITHER of them could give me any details on how to locate ERROR LOGS. Which is infuriating! Surely it shouldn't be that difficult to find where error logs are generally stored, so that I can come here with whatever I'm finding and get help with resolving this issue. But no one can give me any kind of support and I'm starting to feel extremely frustrated having done the same steps for the past several days, over and over.

I just want to get this CMS installed because, having used concrete5 in the past, I know how flexible and powerful it can be. And frankly, I remember it being a lot easier to install in the past. I'm sure it has something to do with how register.com configures their servers but... I'm praying someone can shed some light on what I need to do next.

Hi,

I am having the same problem with FatCow hosting. I am trying to setup a new installation of the latest version and getting an installation error. The red error box in the middle of the screen is blank and the hosting provider cannot provide me usable log files.

I have recreated the database 3 times. The installation stops during the Installing Block Types section.

Any information would be appreciated.

This is usually because the site is timing out

It still errors out at the same place during the installation. I increased it to 600 seconds.

Can you check your host's PHP Error logs and see what the error is?

The logging on this host is terrible. I got further this time.
I enabled display_errors and it went a lot further. Sorry I didn't catch the point at which it stopped but now have reached the MySQL 'max_questions' of 75000. Need to talk to hosting provider about this.
Still no log entries.

I use SiteGround hosting and it has been great. Support is almost an immediate reply to support ticket. You can install Concrete 5 directly form you C Panel.
