How to do a Clean Install of Versioin 8

I previously had Concrete5 Version 5.6.3 and now want to do a clean install of Version 8.

For safety sake, I made a backup copy of my 5.6.3 database. I aleady moved my text files out of the directory and I have copies of files to upload later.

My question is, what legacy 5.6.3 files need to be removed from my host? I aleady moved my text files out of the directory and I have copies of the files to uplaod later.

Appreciate the help!

Joe

Unless you put your new install in a different folder on your server, you will have to remove all of it. 5.6 and v8 are really not the same. They have a different file structure and organization. The database also has to be a different one.

You should back up the whole thing then (again unless you install in a separate folder) remove it all and install the new one.

Best would be to install the new one in a separate folder with a subdomain pointing at it and then when you're happy with the result either redirect the main domain to that folder or move the install to the root where the older website is.

Thank you very much! Yes, a second back up would be wise.

I am so close to getting this back online. I viewed the YouTube manual install tutorial and was tracking along until....

I created a new database, I have the Concrete5 file on the unzipped on my domain but can't figure out the Install part. Which installer do you use? Or, do I need to contact my host to do that?

If you have the concrete files unzipped on the server... just visit your website and the install routine will run automatically..
Make sure the files are in the root of the domain and not in a sub folder.

Thank you! Getting there but still having issues.

I Installed in Public_HTML folder, see attached PDF however, when I go to my website

www.www.brunettifamily.org/family/... I get page can't be found.

When I install in Public_HTML/family/ I get a clean website but the directory is:

Public_HTML/family/Concrete5-8.5.4.3/ Which I don't think is correct.

I'm sure I'm still missing a step.
