Hi yucuninu,

I believe you will need to upgrade to 5.6 (possibly in steps) and then migrate to version 8. There is a migration tool available for the migration.

Custom code, add-ons, and blocks need to be compatible with v8, so some code updating will be required.

Depending on the size of the site and the number of custom features it might be faster to just start over again and just manually migrate content.

As MrKDilkington said there is a tool if you get upgraded to 5.6.3.5 (you'll need to upgrade to 5.5.0, 5.6.0, 5.6.3, 5.6.3.5 in between). Then you'll have to use the migration tool and manually upgrade any custom features.
