Migrate from 5.x to 8 with the same theme

I'm going to take the plunge and switch to 8 on one of my sites that has lots of photos uploaded. I'm guessing there never was a migration tool for that. I've been dormant on developments for a little while.

Can I do anything to simplify this? Perhaps by moving the directory over to the new directory structure?

Hello,

When you say from 5.x to 8 I suppose you mean from 5.6.x to 8 because for 5.7.x to 8 you don't need a migration tool, you can just upgrade.

Starting from 5.6.x you do need a migration tool which does exist.

You can find all the information you need here:http://andrewembler.com/2015/11/upgrade-concrete5-sites-57-using-ou...

Pages, files and users, and most core stuff shouldn't be a problem. Custom stuff and packages from the marketplace won't work through.

Found your tool. Exported things. Doesn't look like all the images were presented for download. That might related to using a content block that perhaps blocks it's content from being seen as part of the page.

Next question, should I install the theme I was using on the temporary install of 5.7 I created before migrating up to the version 8 instance I've already created?

Tried to install the import-export tool into 5.7 but it says it requires 8.x?

Concerning the files, it gets all the files in the file manager, anything else is not included and blocks have no effect on the file manager.

Concerning the tool, when in Github, click on the "releases" tab and download it from there, it will work with 5.7

I don't think it matters.

looked hard but didn't see a releases tab. Saw the two links to the legacy and newer version. Downloaded the newer one that says it only works with 8.

Will look at the image downloads and see if they are all there. I have tons of photos on the site and the list seemed pretty short. If I have to reimport them I hope I can move them on the server rather than have to upload them all. No doubt I'll lose the tags that way though.

Just checked, it only exported 140 images but there are close to 1800 in the file manager.
