php errors in apache log

I'm seeing a ton of errors in my apache error log.

Undefined variable: layout in block_area_layout_controls.php


which is in the updates/concrete5.4.1.1/concrete/elements/ dir

... and 
php fatal error: call to a member function getAreaHandle() on a non-object
in the same file ... should I be concerned about this?
