Sales Tax

Hello,

I'm hopeful someone can assist me. Unfortunately after searching on the forums for past posts, I haven't been able to find any solutions. So here is my situation:

My ecommerce website currently runs on build 5.6.2.1 (with eCommerce 2.8.18). I only charge sales tax for customers in California. However the issue I am running into is that while the sales tax attribute for California works perfectly fine, my customers who are out of state unfortunately are being charged California sales tax during checkout. After several manipulations and tests of my own ( I've tried adding individual states and applying 0% sales tax), I have still not found a solution. Is there a way to install a second sales tax attribute to automatically exempt sales tax for customers not located in California?

Any and help would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful New Year!

I believe you can set this up in the settings on the /index.php/dashboard/core_commerce/payment/tax/add_rate/ page on your site.

I've tried doing this multiple times. While sales tax for California works fine. If I try to add any additional sales tax, out of state addresses are still being charged sales tax. Is there a specific way to install it?

Can you take some screenshots to show us what you have setup and what is happening on the front end?

Attached are the two sales tax types I've installed. For attachment 2.1 (Sales Tax), this sales tax type works perfectly fine. Sales tax is applied in the order checkout for any California addresses. For attachment 3.1 (Out of State Sales Tax), this will not cooperate. Sales tax is still applied when this option is enabled. I've tested various out of state address and made sure my test browser was an incognito as well.

I have setup a dev environment that is close to yours with the same version of ecommerce and I'm not able to replicate the issue you are seeing.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're trying to achieve. Why are you setting a Tax Rate of 0% globally? That should be the default if the user doesn't fall into any of the setup Tax Rates.
