SMTP Settings.

Good day all, this is my second post (the first one was dealt with quite satisfactorily, so thanks for that,

My question has to do with SMTP settings. My email server "requires" SMTP authentication in order to send emails. I can't find any setting that allows me to do this.

I can setup all the other settings, including email address. But without authentication my server denies sending (it's the way it is configured to help reduce spam and bogus emails). as we provide email hosting to hundreds of companies.

I can of course use gmail, but I'd rather not.

Any thoughts?

Try searching for SMTP in the Intelligent Search, there's a specific page for configuring your outgoing mail settings: /index.php/dashboard/system/mail/method

Yes Sir, that's exactly where I was/am.

I've attached a jpeg of my settings page.

I don't see anywhere on the page where I can specify SMTP authentication. All I can do is enter the basic SMTP settings.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am using "concrete5.7.5.9".

Maybe I can't do this via the GUI???

Thanks for the assist.

What exactly are you looking for beyond what you see there?

Your screenshot shows fields for...
*Server
*Username
*Password
*Encryption type, if applicable
*Port

That pretty much covers it...

i cannot get C5 to send a test message using SMTP (on windows and centos)
Config settings:
(of course: using my login ID/Pswd)
smtp.gmail.com
SSL/TLS (tried both)
port: 465

These settings work without issue in Wordpress, ModX and a few others on our Windows (IIS) and centos systems.

Crippled fwall etc. I can telnet in and have a conversation and send mail, but nada in C5. Just spinning indicator saying "waiting for <website name>). Once in a while I get "could not read from gmail...".

*** THIS IS AN UPDATE ***
We installed Concrete 5.7.5.1, setup exactly as our current site.

Setup SMTP as required and it worked without error. We tested 10 times with 10 different recipients.

Please see attachments.

We also tried with the following version concrete5.6.3.3 and it worked just fine. We did these tests on a Windows 2008R2 server and a Centos 6.7 server.

We performed a "fresh" install of concrete5.7.5.9 and smtp will not work.

To us, this awfully much looks like and issue with the current build.

Just sayin, we are nubes with 5. In reality, we took a ModX site (which took 2 months to build) and ported it into (for the most part) C5. So yeah and it is our intention to move all our sites into C5 - so this is not a "quit letter", just some level of comfort for us that we did not do any out of the ordinary - good comfort.

But I think at this point we are going to stick with 5.7.5.1 unless there are compelling reasons to use current version.

I guess the question would be can we load the existing site db in to mysql or would that be a bad idea.

Thanks for your attention and hopefully this is not something that we are missing...

I thought I'd drop a note and update this post.

It turns out that the SMTP settings do work in 5.7.5.9, but it's a bit of a "Gotcha".

When configuring the property sheet, fill in everything "Except" for the Port. If it is left blank (i.e. empty) then all is well.

The problem came from the fact that one "Supposed" by "leaver blank for default", would default to Port 25 - which is the "Universal Default SMTP Port". So we assumed that's what it meant and of course wanted to specify the appropriate SSL/TLS port.

This was also compounded by the fact that pretty much every "web help topic" we reviewed indicated that you should ought to fill in the port for SSL/TLS.

Hope this helps other nubies.
