Subhosting.net VPS

This thread will document my attempt to move to subhosting.net's VPS solutions.
I'll let you know what issues I run into.. what the timing looks like, and how well everything works. If there is anything you want me to test, let me know!

6/15/2010 3:30pm - Signed up with VPS-1 (Added CPanel option)http://subhosting.net/vps.php
Some specs:
40GB Storage (40GB offsite backup)
512MB Ram
1 x 2.0+ GHZ Core
500GB transfer
Managed (I'm not IT - so this was important for me)
All runs about $26 / month... no contract.

6/17/2010 1:00am - Account was activated. Apparently using 2CO payment system, they add 24 hour delay because of the high fraud rate.
Ran into my first problem. Loaded up the control panel, and it turns out that Apache is failing to load. Sent in a support ticket at 8:00am after a little troubleshooting on my end. We'll see how their response time is.

UPDATE: A few back and forths on tickets (I'm learning what info they need to verify account etc.) Apache is up and running properly. Total of 38 minutes from ticket submission to fix. Not too bad!

6/17/2010 5:00pm - I'm happy to report that after DNS finally pointed over this afternoon, I was able to install concrete5. No issues at all. In fact I was pleasantly surprised when the install went without any issues, and I was able to use pretty URL's without anything more than checking the box.
Speed seems pretty quick. No 15-20 second load times like on some other hosts. Default page loads in about a second. Dashboard is snappy. No noticeable delay.

I'll keep you up to date if anything happens.

I am looking into Subhosting.net and was wondering how things were going for you. How's your experience with them been? How's server speed, uptime? Any feedback you could give would be great. Thanks!

I'll cut to the chase.... I am no longer with Subhosting. For whatever reason, I kept having random cpu spikes, slow disk I/O and general Concrete5 slowness. My clients were complaining, so I began looking around...

I wholeheartedly recommend Alien Layer VPS.
http://alienvps.com/vps-hosting/...

They have lifetime discounts usually posted on WebHostingTalk.com
I was able to get a 25% discount.

I use their Las Vegas Datacenter, and have had excellent results in terms of uptime, disk I/O, and support.
I've been with them for about 3 or 4 months, and the couple times I put in a support ticket, it was resolved in less than 10 minutes.
Good Luck!

I no longer recommend AlienLayer... I've since moved everything to HostGator. I've used them in one way or another now for nearly a decade, and they are top notch.

Hello Philip,

sorry for the problem you had. If you choose to come back, will give you month free and will assign someone to you - on "one-on-one" to see why this spike issues happen (it can be anything at all).

All our hardware we use is really top of the line, including sas drives and raid 10 setup across few servers.

Thank you

Ivan
