Upgrade process suggestion

It would be great to be able to click the update link in the dashboard and only be updated with the files that were modified between the loaded version and the updated version. They could be passed straight in to the installation and current files could be placed in a separate folder for backup purposes.

Right now I always hesitate if I should go through with the slow upload process with 1400 files or so each time a x.x.x version is released, and it seems very redundant. Just my thoughts..

Wouldn't it be great?
Such an automated updater with intel about which files to update...

But! Although this is very user friendly I think it's quite difficult. The package should download the files and then have rights to modify it's own files. I don't event want to know how many security risks are there.

The changes to the database are easy, but the automatically updating the files from the internet... Way too complicated.

Wordpress features this since recently, but I heard a lot of complaints/bugs about that it didn't worked as well on everybody's installation.
