upgrade to 5.3 fails

Hi,
Hope you can help me, i am trying to upgrade from 5.2.0RC2 to 5.3.0 and get the following error, i have tried to take the sql out of helpers/upgrade_520.php and apply manually but still no joy
Error occurred while upgrading: mysql error: [0: ] in EXECUTE("ALTER TABLE btFormQuestions MODIFY COLUMN msqID INTEGER UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT")
