Hi, I would be glad to help for a German translation. I know that some else proposed on sourceforge as well. So if he/she read this, let's share work. Marcus

Here I am!

Having a public repository with the po files would be nice, subversion anywhere?

Otherwise it's a bit difficult to share work!

I'll start translating a few strings. Will post the file here when I'm done!

I'll continue next week! Please post your translations here if you work on it!

thanks Olaf!

Seems like the leftovers are quite difficult to translate...

Metadata, Handle, Breadcrumb, Theme, Radio Buttons, Page Type, Wrapper, Dashboard, Block, Area and such words are quite difficult to translate.. Which of them should we translate?
ong replied on at Permalink Reply
ong
Hi

we should translate all of them. I believe it will be almost impossible to translate all of them correctly and meaningful. We need to install and correct errors when we find them.

Also: We should set a mark here in the forum letting the other one of us know when we are translating. I did not think you would be working on it today and started with my file again - fortunately only 8 minutes wasted.

So no new file from me right now ;-)

Olaf
Remo replied on at Permalink Reply
Remo
are you really sure about that?
I think there are some words which are easier to understand in english, even if someone only speaks german.

for example - breadcrumb - brotkrümmel navigation? jeez! I know for quite some time what breadcrumbs are but I've never seen a german word for that.

And sometimes it's easier to talk about concrete5 when people are using the same words. I've got block and area in my mind.

But let us finish the translation and fix the details then, since it's easier to do that when you see what you've translated.

Yes, good idea about the start note ;-) sorry about that..

I'll be in school tomorrow, no more updates, feel free to translate without leaving a note ;-)

Hi

I agree with the breadcrumbs - remember Hänsel & Gretel - they got them as well.

I believe I actually did translate breadcrumbs, well, we might translate that back after all.
I have also marked some strings as "unsure about the translation".

Anybody going to the php unconference (http://www.php-unconference.de/)?...

It would be nice to have a c5 meeting/presentation.

Übrigens, sollte die "German" Diskussion nicht auf Deutsch geführt werden?
Remo replied on at Permalink Reply
Remo
I'd like to make a Concrete5 presentation someday, but Hamburg is quite far away from Switzerland...

We can write in German, but sometimes it might be interesting for others to read these messages too.

But honestly, I don't care. If there are a few who don't speak English, why not..

hi all,

german translation is done so far.
There some strings that aren't located in the .mo file:

Add functionality-> 'Click here to sign in or create an account.'

and

'You can extend your site with new addons and themes from the concrete5 marketplace.'

Missing German translations for new features - suggestions

I installed Concrete5 version 5.3.3.1.
Unfortunatly not all new features are supported by the German language pack de_DE yet.

As a native speaker I'd like to propose the following translations below.
(Syntax: <English name> "->" <German name>)

I hope you can use my work as I'm no expert in technical things. Could you please take over and tell me an implementation date?

Thanks, Ben

This application creates a database export file and stores it on your server. It tries to encrypt the file if possible, but may not always do so. Leaving these files on your server may introduce a security risk for your site, and running a restore is not guaranteed to always work correctly. The core concrete5 team suggests you work closely with your web-host and/or site developer to make sure you have a redundancy plan that makes sense. We do not support or warrant this backup routine in any way. That being said, it seemed to work for us. Enjoy.

Hi

sorry, that you did this translation: I had done it before - it's available in the SVN.
I have attached a file for you to upload and try.

BTW: Do you want to join the translation team?

Thanks for the files. I replaced them on the server. Unfortunatly I cannot see any changes. Does this have something to do with a missing refresh? Well, I logged off and on. It didn't help. It's still named "Database Backup" / "Site Activity" / Statistics" instead of "Datenbanksicherung" / "Letzte Aktionen" / "Statistik". Could you please tell me what I can do to see your translations?

I'd like to help with translations as long as I'm engaged in my current homepage project.

Thanks & regards,

Ben

OK, guys.
Since this is my first post here:
I have translated several applications in the open source world and I know and respect the standards. I know what a really good translation is made of...

I'm new to C5 and I'm totally impressed by it's features.

Soon i figured out that the german translation files doesn't meet any good standards. So today I worked many hours on it. There where so many mistakes, some just not finished sentences, translations by word and not by meaning and all that stuff...

However, I merged my translations with the file "ong" attached in a previous post.
It should all work fine! Feel free to diff your file and mine ;)

Oh and please teach me where we can all work together since I would like to make a perfect german C5 in team.

Wunderschöne Grüße ;)
Martin

Hello Martin,

I installed your language files, but I can't see any changes. There is still this "Statistics" thing and the "Site activity" and "Database backup". Was hast Du denn genau geändert ist doch die Hälfte noch Englisch...?

Thanks for clarification.

Regards,

Ben

Tja dann musst du genauer hinsehen ;)
Hab viele Stunden damit verbracht hunderte Fehler in der Übersetzung zu fixen und bin noch nicht mal ansatzweise durch...

Das Problem, von dem du da berichtest, können Sprach-Dateien leider nicht beeinflussen, da es sich offensichtlich um einen Bug in C5 handelt...

Hi

please email/contacte Franz to take you into the translation group.
Once this is done you should be able to login to the SVN and translate directly.

I am using
rapidsvn (http://rapidsvn.tigris.org/ ) and
poedit (http://www.poedit.net ) right now.

PS: Remo and I put also hours into translation...and we both did not think it was too bad... remember to be kind ;-)

Olaf

Please be careful if you didn't work with svn so far. I might have added and fixed a few more translations which might be lost if you just override the files.

Please check this first and merge your files!

I know that there are lots of bad translations... A problem about time and also about common goals.

Shouldn't we agree about a few things first? In German:

ong replied on at Permalink Reply
ong
Hi

Remo, some good thoughts. Here my 2 cents:

@1) Rechtschreibreform: We have new rules for the language - we should follow, as they will not be reverted.
Yes from me to Rechtschreibreform

@2) We should translate with both target groups in mind: The admin who knows all the "special" words and the regular user. We should use "Theme" instead of "Thema" but there might be other cases where I think we need to make it possible for the unexperienced user to know what's meant, even though we can also expect him to speak "admin" language if he wants to play admin for his CMS.

@3) Well, there will always be weird translations. The person who finds one should simply "upgrade" and improve.

Olaf
lukeen replied on at Permalink Reply

Remo replied on at Permalink Reply
Remo

lukeen replied on at Permalink Reply
So hab mal was hochgeladen.

How do you work together on the translation? Anyone translates what he likes? Or are there possibilites to discuss translations first and make proposals? I don't want to redo things already done.
I have experiances translating books but not applications. What is the workflow?
Remo replied on at Permalink Reply
Remo
there is no workflow..

I was talking to Martin about this yesterday.

At the moment there's just mail, c5 forums and skype..

I don't think we need a big workflow, but if we could specify/agree and a few things it would definitely be helpful. A readme file in the svn might already be enough.
