Google doesnt like default language redirect

Hi we have recently used the Internationalisation add on for a german site. when indexing the site on webmaster tools. it picked up that the root is being redirected to the default language and doesnt seem to like it.

Has anyone experienced this, and any solutions around it?

With the internationalization add-on it is possible to have the default language point to the root. In other words, you don't need a redirect. Or is you default language dynamic and e.g. based on the browser's language settings?

Your sitemap can look like this:
DE
--EN
--FR

I assume you have it set up like this?
Home
--DE
--EN
--FR

Yes I have set it up like below

Home
-EN
-DE

I disabled the setting where it is based on the user's browser, only have the redirect to default enabled. Ill change up my sitemap as you have suggested, that looks like it will solve my problem.

Ok, yes it will definitely solve your problem. Be aware your URL slugs will change though... And you can't copy / overwrite the home page.

Hi Gents,

I have exactly the same problem (google complains about the redirect), but I am very new to C5. How do I go ahead and change the sitemap so that my English home replaces the Home one?

- En
- Es

Yes, I need this set up too, but want to do it via .htaccess. I.e. in the sitemap I will have:

Home
- en
- de
- etc

But on english URLs, the user will see:

http://www.domain.com/

and German Urls:

http://www.domain.com/de/

I need this because I'm migrating from an old site and don't want to lose my built up link 'juice'
