File Manager picture problems

Whenever I try to download a picture to save in file manager it takes forever to download and after 45 minutes of waiting for one picture I finally just click off of it and then a flower icon appears in place of the picture. But if I click the flower icon the picture is there. So when I want to replace an existing picture with a new one the pictures all appear larger (alot larger) than they should. I start to drag and downsize it to the size I need and then when I try to replace it, the whole page disappears and then I can not even get into my page to ever edit it anymore. I am at a loss and really need technical support to get me through this. Please help.

Any picture? I mean do you try to upload a picture that is 6 MB in size or have you tried small images with like 50kb?

What's the resolution of these pics?

I'm going soon and wont be online over easter. So I give you my solution for a similar problem I had some time ago, maybe it's the same, who knows:

Flower icon? Scaling up? This is one of the weirdest problems I've heard of.

Is the site available somewhere we can try this out? Or maybe you can post screenshots?

This is happening because your /files directory is not writable.

You need to make sure this directory and all of the directories inside of it have their permissions set to writable.

Once you do that, you can select the images you have already uploaded to the file manager and from the drop menu select "Rescan".

This will generate a thumbnail of the image instead of the default "flower icon".

Your uploads from that point forward will create thumbnails as normal.
