Can I redirect an alias to its original? Or is there an add-on where I can select individual pages for a page list?

Hi All,

Can I redirect an alias to its original? Or is there an add-on where I can select individual pages for a page list?

I have a site with a long list of items. Each one has a page. I am displaying them as images using a page list with custom template.

I also want to display them in alphabetical groups, so that visitors can go to ABC, DEF, GHI etc and see the items that start with those letters. An "ABC" page would have a sort of page list displaying the items that start with those letters.

I've initially done this by putting aliases to the item pages under ABC, DEF pages.

The problem I have is that when I visit the ABC page and then an item, the breadcrumbs say something like SITE > LIST > ABC > B ITEM

I would like to select the B Item but go to SITE > LIST > B ITEM

The reason for this is that I have back and next links at the level SITE > LIST

If I'm at the level of SITE > LIST > ABC the visitor will only be able to page through the items beginning with A, B and C, instead of all of the items.

I could do this by duplicating pages and adding a redirect to the original of each page but I'm hoping for something more efficient!

I hope that makes some sense. Does anyone know of an addon or procedure that might help me? Let me know if this needs better clarification!

NB v5.6

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Here is the 'Index' page:

Here is an individual item:

Here is an item at the ABC level:
https://www.plantfont.com/plant-dictionary/plants-atob/aloe-vera/...

When I view at that level, I would like to be redirected to the next level up, so that the back and next links can page through ALL plants. i.e.
