3 Column Page Type

How do you add a page type that would have 3 columns? I basically would like to see the left nav bar, body, and right nav bar all at the same time.

Add a page type and a file that is named after the page type. Look at the existing theme, there you'll see that page types and files are linked together just by looking at the name.

Copy the left page type file and modify the html and css files, add a page type in the dashboard and there you go!

Thanks Remo. As you can tell, I'm just finding my way around C5. Really liking what I see so far though.

When you see copy the left page type file and modify the files...do you mean through the UI. I believe I've done that. where are the html and css files stored so I can find them to edit. I'm looking through all the c5 files and don't even see any relating to the page types that exist within the theme I'm using (green salad).

they are located in www-root/concrete/themes

but you better copy the theme to www-root/themes and modify them there..

you have to copy the _file_ not only by using the dashboard! you can't create a theme by using the dashboard!

Hello?

What is so friendly about all this?
I don't understand why there isn't a page type of this kind or any others.

See my post suggestion here:
http://www.concrete5.org/community/features/page_types_-_more_layer...

Some of them, can be in the C5 pages type. It just need someone who are skilled to make it happen. Not newbies like me.

Please don't forget us. We need you guys.

I don't agree with that.

You'll always find someone that needs another page type that isn't there. Having all possible page types doens't make sense and is confusing.

You can use the existing themes (and page types) but you should always build your own theme. You don't want that your page looks like 1000 other pages, do you?

I have some problems to see why and how someone wants to build a website without having php nor css knowledge. At some point you must know about these things or you'll always find a point where your stuck.

I agree with both of you. When you have little css or php skills, it's tough to spend hours getting up to speed to change the page type though. Seems as if the nav right, nav left, full, and 3 column are some rather common layouts that could all be incorporated into the basic framework...then let some of us less skilled hackers dive into the code to change column widths and what not. Are there more themes out there other than the plain yogurt and green salad? I need somewhere to get at least the gist of a 3 column template in css and php so that I can apply that to my existing template/page types.
