Admin vs other groups

Permalink
I have a few quick questions but I figure Ill ask them in seperate posts for easier searching for others later. My first question has to do with Admin vs other users. If I:
1. Create a new user
2. Create a new group
3. Add new user to the new group
4. login as new user
5. Click the dashboard button

I am redirected to the login page. I assume that this means that only admins are allowed view the dashboard? If so why does the dashboard button show up for non admins. And finally, is there a way to give partial access to the dashboard to groups other than admin? I can see situations where you may want a user to see things like usage stats but not allow them to see form submissions etc.

Ok I figured out how to give people access to the dashboard. For Posterity's sake here is how:

1. Log in as Admin
2. Go to the Sitemap
3.on the right side of the screen, check the box "Show System Pages"
4. This will add "Dashboard" to the Sitemap tree
5. Now you can set view and edit permissions based upon groups for each section of the dashboard.

This works perfect because as you remove view permissions from sections of the dashboard, it will eliminate that element from the dashboard navigation, Perfect.

Ok, so now for the next question. I have enabled advanced permissions as described here:http://www.concrete5.org/index.php?cID=121... The problem is I don't see that this has changed anything. The linked article states that enabling advanced permissions allows for much more granular control such as

* Page-specific Access
* Adding, editing, reading versions and deleting pages
* Being able to add only specific page types to specific sections of sites
* Area-specific control
* Block-specific control

I don't see anyway to actually change permissions for things such as area and block specific control. To me this means( and maybe I am wrong, please correct me if I am) that I can set permissions for sections of a page. So I can allow a certain group of users to edit the main content section of a page. If I am wrong and this is not possible please let me know. If it is possible, please clue me in as to how this works. Thanks
