Blank page when i log-in to edit website

Hi all,

Could anyone help me? I was updating some news items on our website on Monday when all of a sudden the page redirected to the home page URL but the screen was blank. I can get up the Concrete5 log-in page up but once i input the user name and password it redirects to the home page URL and the screen remains blank. The company who developed the site are contactable. Did i hit some button which caused this? What can i do to get back into the editing suite? I would truly appreciate any guidance.

Thank you.

William

Can you provide a URL to your site? There are several things that might cause this but it's hard to know what it might be without being able to see it.

It looks like this is an older 5.6 site, when you login if you look at the Page Source, is there any PHP errors there?

Thanks for your message. I logged in just now to see if i could find any php errors and the site has come back to life. I am still not sure what caused this to happen. The last thing i was doing was uploading a image (taken from google) for a news item. Not sure if it was a file with a virus or that fact the image was over 6mb. Anyways, thank you for your help. I appreciated the response.

Hi again Hutman,

It seems all of the site is working fine apart from one area - the home page. I am unable to edit the home page content. When i click on the home page (when in edit mode) it seems to redirect me out of the edit function and to the page which can be seen in the public view. For some reason also this page is missing over half of its functionality with many items to the right and bottom of the page not displaying at all.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Best wishes.

William

Thanks for your quick reply. What do you mean by the Page Source? Is it the Dashboard? Once i log in it brings me to the home page which i can't edit but if i click on any of the other headings the edit function appears on these pages. It disappears when i go back again to the home page.

Right click on the page and there should be a "View Source" option in that menu. On the front end, this has nothing to do with C5, it's just browser functionality.

I was able to do that. It didn't show up any PHP errors...

Are you by any chance using Bluehost? This sounds like an issue with a varnish cache that many people using them had a while back.

Thanks for your reply and your assistance. No, we don't use Bluehost. The company who developed our website are in longer in existence.

If this has just started happening recently I would suggest you contact your hosting company and make sure that they did not enable varnish caching.

No, they haven't enabled varnish caching. They suggest that i may have to restore content to an earlier date - it is saved once a quarter on their servers.

If you want to restore you could go into the Dashboard -> Full Sitemap and check the versions and see if you can find one that's working.
