C5 8.5.4 Login Destination not working

Hi
Firstly let me apologise if this issue has already been addressed but I can't seem to find any reference to it.

I am running C5 v8.5.4 with the default Elemental theme activated and PHP 7.4.15 and am generally trying to get myself familiar with the way C5 works (and really wishing there were better documentation).

I have pretty much grasped most of C5's basic concepts (I'm not an expert developer, I'm just a bit of a tinkerer with the programming languages PHP, HTML, CSS but have a good understanding of them) and really want to avoid "getting under the hood" and getting my hands dirty with coding as much as possible.

I just want to build my website and have as much control over it's content and security as I can without too much trouble.

In my playing around, I have turned my attention to the Login Destination area of the dashboard's Login and Registration category. However, when I choose "Redirect to a specific page" and choose which page I want to redirect users to, they always end up going to the home page no matter what. Even if I select "Redirect to user's desktop", I get the same result.

I have all caches off.
I manually created a test user who only has permission to view pages and placed them in a group called Test Group 1.
My page permissions are set to allow users in Test Group 1 to view them.
My site access viewing permissions are set to Members - only registered users can view the website.
I have enabled public profiles and unchecked the account menu option.

Nothing works.

I just need to know if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong.

Oh, and on a different matter, when in super admin mode, if I try to send a PM to the user who has their PM settings activated (i.e., they want to receive and be notified of PMs) the logs show that all email notifications to the user's email address are not sent. They always fail.

The message is available to read in their inbox, but no notification is sent.

A little help?
