Download file block

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I have several websites using Concrete5. On all but one the Download File block works as it should.

However, on one site after creating a download link for a file using the Download File block clicking on the link does not initiate a download -- but the link it generates looks exactly like the links that do work on the other sites.

Instead, the site attempts to open the link as if it were a URL to a page, and returns a "Page Not Found" error message.

Does anyone know why this may be happening?

No help here?

There could be many reasons - does the file still actually exist? By that I mean it may appear in the file manager, but it's possible for the file to have been removed leaving an orphaned entry in the file manager.

Perhaps an example would be useful....

Here is a short video -- it is not quite clear enough but toward the end of the clip when I hold the cursor on the link the URL is visible in the lower left. The URL is the same format as is produced by the File Download Block on my other sites, but -- the other sites initiate a file download and this site tries to open a page.

Thank you for your help.

And here is a video of the File Download Block on another site working properly.

The video isn't much use really - what's wrong with posting a link to the page that's not working?

Is there any difference in the versions of C5 between the sites? What happens when you replace the file in the file manager - i.e. make sure it actually exists. Have you tried uploading a completely new file - perhaps a file that has never been uploaded before? What happens?

I uploaded a new file. It makes no difference. Here is a link to view the sample page --https://www.russellscloud.com/index.php?cID=267...

It looks to me as if the "Download File" page is missing from your site map. Go to the dashboard, click on site map, and check "show system pages". You should see a page called "Download File" as a child of the home page. Is it there or has it perhaps been moved elsewhere in the site map?

Thank you Jero. Your assumption helped. Originally I had the exactly the same error message - "Page Not Found". By accident I moved my "Download file" page into restricted area (where guest user did not have access).
Here it is how I resolved this issue.
1. Go to Dashboard of your site
2. Go to SiteMap / Full Sitemap
3. In the Intelligent search field (top right corner on your screen) type 'download'
4. You should see "Your site | Download File" option, click on it
5. You should get to the "Download File" page on you site.
in my case the page was located in the
http://www.your-site.com/index.php/locked/download_file/...
It is clear that this page had been move into "locked" are.
6. Drug and drop the "Download File" page on the "Home" page in the "Full sitemap" tree.
It will solve your problem.
Good luck!
