Thanks for the favicon info, works fine in Firefox, not in IE8 (from what I've seen).

Might need to clear cache. Ie seems to hang onto favicons for a long time.

There is a site where you can check how your favicon is displayed in the different browsers:

http://getfavicon.org

The page has no chache so forget about refresh problems.

It HAS to be a .ico file for it to work in IE.

as I found out with getfavicon.org the favicon must not be a renamed .png in order to show up there and/or in IE. I changed my pic to a .gif and renamed it then to an .ico - this solved the problem :-)

I was wrong. In order to see the faivon in IE you NEED to save it in the original .ico format. It is of no use to rename a gif or png.
There are free plugins for photoshop or online converter to convert/save a gif/png into ico.

Hi,

For what it's worth I have used the link below to create Favicon's for a number of sites, both static Fav's and animated Fav's it works fine in Firefox not sure about IE as I have decided to move away from that.

There is no need to rename files or worry about the format after you have downloaded, It does all that for you and it allows you more editing than you probably would ever need.

I do hope this helps.

Many thanks
