Hover Over Dashboard 5.6 versus 5.5

Does anyone know a way to have the hover over dashboard in 5.6 appear as it does in 5.5. I am not certain why in 5.6 it was shortened not to reflect all dashboard selections. Since I have sites using both, I have found the 5.5 version to be much faster in getting routine things done.
To customise the menu that appears at the top, you have to go to your Dashboard, visit each page that you want to have appear in the hover menu and then click the star icon in the top right of the grey title bar. This marks it as favourite and the page gets added to your hover nav.
Note: starring the pages only applies them to the hover menu of the current logged in user, so you'll have to repeat the process for other users.
