images missing after update

I have just updated from version 5.7 to version 8.1
In both cases i got a system notice prior to update saying there was a new version, but when i click the link it goes to the error page?
So I got to the system menu and do it from there but get a warning saying it cant get information from concrete5.org.
I ignore that and do the update, but when compete there was some code error in red text i didn't understand and then all my images are missing. I go to files and they are still there but are broken on the pages where used.
I try to add them back but just get a blank box. Its all very strange.
Can anyone help with this is I assumed applying an update from concrete5.org would be safe.

Thanks.

It'd be very helpful to see screenshots of the errors and attach them to this post. Now it's really hard for anyone to really help you. Regarding updates, there's always a risk that things go wrong because each site can be different. It's recommended to create a full backup first, before doing an update on a live website.

Do you have screenshots of the errors? Or can you retrieve errors via the Logs page? (if your website doesn't work anymore, try the 'Logs' database table and sort records descending)

Your right I should have backed up first, i just didn't think an update from C5 would have caused an error.

This is my website:http://cuecreative.co.uk/
Home page is supposed to have a header image at the top.
You can see its placeholder and alt. text. the image is in files and displays correctly there.
I have tried editing the block by replacing the image but no joy.
I cant add any image to any page even though in edit mode it looks like it will work.

Back end of CMS seems to be working fine.

I found this entry in database logs....

Exception Occurred: /home/cuecreat/public_html/updates/concrete5-8.2.1_remote_updater/concrete/vendor/doctrine/dbal/lib/Doctrine/DBAL/Driver/AbstractMySQLDriver.php:66 An exception occurred while executing 'INSERT INTO SystemDatabaseMigrations (version) VALUES (?)' with params ["20170731021618"]:

I'll piggyback on this as I'm having the same problems.

U[date from the welcome page gives 404.

Images disappearing from published pages.

Edit content not consistent with published page.

Here are screenshots of a published block and the editable version of the same. I'm simply tring to correct a couple of typos, but I've spent an hour or two just trying to get at the text ... so far without success. The final paragraph and the YouTube link remain stubbornly absent, despite clearing caches and the like.

I'll try to show similar with images that show up in the block edit, but then do not show up on the page, though I've "fixed" most by re-uploading the images (meaning I now have multiple such images in Files.

OK, that wasn't hard .. I just went to another page that used to have images.:

screenshots attached of what on the page people see and what's on the block edit.

Sorry the subject isn't elegant.
