Lost footer with editing

I changed themes, and now the footer that allows one to edit is gone. Any suggestions for how to fix this? I can't even change themes...

The theme you switched from more than likely had an editable footer area. The theme you switched to does not.

Try to clear your site cache through system and settings, and try changing your theme back.

If there is no editable footer, then how does one edit the page using that theme?

The footer can be re-written using ftp or a file manager. Your server has folders on them and ftp, or file manager from your cpanel will let you access them. What you need to do is open the theme that your usings folders, and find packages/yourtheme That is the folder for the theme your using. Open this and than open more folders marked theme or themes and theme name until you find the elements folder.

In the elements folder you will find a file called footer. Edit it with a text editor, and there you have it. If your not familiar with html you will have to google some stuff like href, but thats how its done.

I tried to do that, but the theme isn't listed.

But more to the point, there has to be an easy way to edit in a theme that doesn't have "edit" in the footer

Ok I misunderstood you completely. I didn't realize that it was the login you were missing, and thought you wanted to rewrite the bottom text in your site, like powered by , and theme by, and that your inability to edit was because of the theme not being in 5.5 etc

Type this into your browserwww.www.yoursitename.com/index.php/dashboard... this will get you into the dashboard, and from there you can edit.
