Themes not changing

Hi. I have just installed C5, and am playing around making changes to themes. When I customize a theme, and then activate it, I lose all formatting and images, and have only a white background with editable regions.

There are no images or backgrounds visible.

The sidebar, for example, goes right across the screen, rather than being where the theme would place it.

Changing themes - even to an un-modified one, makes no difference. Still no formatting or images.

I have done a reinstall on the server, which of course took me back to a new site, but again, editing a theme leaves me with the problem of no images or formatting.

I CAN edit the page and add images OK.

Any ideas?? Many thanks

Are you:

A) editing the actual core theme css (wrong way)?

or

B) using the dashboard theme customisation (best way if it can do what you want)?

or

C) copying the theme into a root level theme (a valid place to edit css if the dashboard options are not enough)?

There are other ways to customise themes, but the above cover the usual approaches and the main newcomer mistake.

If you really want to get into it, there is a howto package a them from start to finish and @remo's book on theming concrete5.

Thanks for replying. I am editing via the dashboard, but have just been made aware of a new version, so will update to the latest release and report back. Thanks again. Ed

Sounds somewhat a familiar problem. What version of concrete5 are you running? I had the same problem with version 5.6.1.2. After trying to figure out the problem I simply reinstalled concrete5 as it was a brand new site with very little done to it. That fixed the problem but I have no idea what really caused it. Installation of version 5.6.2 has worked like a charm.

Thanks for that. My version is the previous one so I will update to the latest, and see if that saves my sanity.

Cheers. Ed

Allright. Let us know if updating the installation worked.

Hi. Unfortunately no luck. Still losing all images and formatting when I change themes or modify the existing theme from the dashboard. I wonder if this could be anything to do with my host, 123-reg.

I may try doing a manual install instead of a 1 click, to see if that helps at all.

Cheers, and thanks for replying. Ed
